Useful Keyboard Shortcuts for Ableton

Workflow speed-up by using the most useful shortcuts!

Are you aiming for faster results in production because you want to be quicker? First of all our most important tip is to make use of keyboard shortcuts as much as possible.

Mac OSX

General Shortcuts

TAB  –  Switches arrangement and session view

ESC  –  Abort value entry

Delete  –  return to default

B –  Draw mode

CTRL + Z  –  Undo (Most usefull!)

CMD + A  –  select all

CMD + U  –  Quantize Selection (Usefull with CMD + A)

CMD + D  –  Duplicate (you can duplicate almost anything)

CMD + E  –  Split clip at selection (Cutting and psating)

CMD + SHIFT + I  –  Insert captured scene

CMD+ S = Save (Just do this regularly)

CMD+1/2/3/4  –  Adjust grid size

CMD + J  –  consolidate selection into clip

CMD + L  –  Loop selection

CMD + R = Rename selected

+/-   –  zoom in / zoom out

Play Commands

SPACE   –  Play/Stop

SHIFT + SPACE  –   Play from stop point

SHIFT + TAB  –  Toggle device view and clip view

0  –   deactivate notes/clips

Clip and Note commands

Hold shift while transposing. It will transpose the selected notes by an octave

Z/X Transpose your computer beyboard by an octave (down/up)

C / V Decreases or increases the velocity for notes you enter by keyboard or mouse by 20.

  • Shortcuts make your workflow faster because you use the mouse less.
  • There are a lot of key commands available to you. Also, you can customize every command. For example, we’d like to map our numeric keys to markers in our arrangement.
  • I.e. We got an intro (1), buildup(2), raise(3), drop (4) etc.
  • Assign these numbers to the various parts our song consist of!
